Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said America should “get behind” President Trump because “the public has spoken – whether you like the results or not,” during an interview on ABC’s “The View.”
Bloomberg said that opposing a president simply because they are aligned with a different party is not the proper approach.
“He’s our president and we need this country to be run well. I didn’t vote for him,” Bloomberg said. “Let’s just hope that Donald Trump is a good president of the United States.”
Bloomberg encouraged Americans to focus their energy and attention on impacting the next election, rather than fighting the current administration.
In other countries people “try to tear down the government and have a revolution” when they don’t like the outcome of an elections Bloomberg said.
However, the he did not rule out voicing opposition to the president:
“You can protest. You can elect other officials, write letters, make phone calls. But in the end, the public has spoken – whether you like the results or not.”
Bloomberg said that the special election for the Georgia 6th Congressional district proves that money cannot buy an election. And he said Trump’s slogan “Make America Great Again” struck a patriotic tone that appealed to voters.
“I don’t know what the ‘again’ means, we’re better today than we have ever been. Still, that’s the key.”
