Santorum: Dem Victories Are Trump’s Fault

Trump is responsible for the Democrats’ electoral sweep on Tuesday according to former Sen. Rick Santorum, who says Trump has failed to deliver on his campaign promises.

“I think the bottom line is Donald Trump is not delivering on what he said he was going to deliver on, and that’s the problem,” Santorum said on CNN. “And he needs to deliver, and if there’s a message for Republicans they better get that message and they better start passing stuff and looking like they can govern.”

Santorum, a Pennsylvania Republican who was the runner-up for the GOP presidential nomination in 2012 and briefly ran again in 2016, has usually defend Trump since endorsing him in May 2016.

Last night’s Democratic electoral sweep gave liberals a jolt ahead of the 2018 midterms, and highlighted concerns that Trump’s unpopularity may be a problem for Republicans looking to hold onto their majorities in Congress and statehouses across the country.

In the most watched election of the night, Democrat Ralph Northam defeated Republican Ed Gillespie by a nearly 9 point margin, and won the Virginia gubernatorial race, as Democrats saw extraordinary turn-out across the state.

After Gillespie’s defeat, President Trump took to Twitter to say Gillespie lost because he did not “embrace” him during his campaign.

However, Santorum rejected the notion that Gillespie was to blame. “It’s not Ed’s fault,” Santorum said. “You’re blaming it on Ed, and I just don’t think it’s Ed’s fault.”
