A new poll of Ohio voters paints a bleak picture for Ohio Governor John Kasich’s chances of staging a primary challenge and securing the nomination in 2020.
A new poll by Baldwin Wallace University’s Community Research Institute conducted from February 29 to March 9 found that 62% of Ohio Republican voters would support Trump while only 27% would support Kasich.
Despite the bleak outlook in Ohio, polls have found that Kasich’s approval ratings have risen 18% since 2016. Kasich ran against Trump during the 2016 presidential election and was one of the last three Republicans to drop out of the race.
Kasich is holding a “fireside chat” in New Hampshire on April 3. New Hampshire, there the nation’s first primaries are held, is often seen as an important barometer of support for candidates.
The poll surveyed 1,011 registered voters and has a 6 percentage point margin of error.
