Good morning! Here are the top three stories to start Friday:

1: North Carolina Board Calls For New Election

The North Carolina Board of Elections voted unanimously on Thursday to call for a new election in the state’s 9th Congressional District.

Election officials voted for the new election after Republican Mark Harris, one of the candidates in the race, said he would support a new election following days of testimony about a voter fraud scheme carried out by political operative hired by Harris’ campaign.

Allegations of voter fraud have left the results of the election in question since November.

2: Schumer To Introduce Bill To Block Trump’s National Emergency

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said on Thursday that Senate Democrats will introduce a bill to block President Trump’s national emergency declaration.

In a statement, Schumer urged Republican senators to support the resolution:

“This issue transcends partisan politics, and I urge all senators — Democrats and Republicans — to support this resolution to terminate the president’s emergency declaration when it comes up for a vote in the Senate.”

The House of Representatives will be voting on a similar measure in the coming days.

3: IRS Analyst Charged With Leaking Cohen’s Financial Dealings

The Department of Justice charged an IRS analyst, John Fry, who works in the IRS’ San Francisco office with leaking the financial dealings of Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen.

The federal complaint alleges that Fry downloaded sensitive documents regarding Cohen’s financial dealings and made phone calls to lawyer Michael Avenatti.

The downloaded documents included Suspicious Activity Reports (SAR) which are filed to flag suspicious activity for potential scrutiny but do not necessarily mean any wrongdoing was committed.

Prosecutors say Fry admitted to leaking documents to Avenatti both verbally and in a written statement. He faces a maximum five years in prison and a $250,000 fine if he is found guilty of unlawful disclosure of suspicious activity reports.

Have a great weekend!
